Shipments of cement in the Peruvian market totaled 6,098,738t from January to August 2012, 16.84 per cent more than the same period of 2011 (5,219,828t), the Association of Cement Producers (Asocem) has reported. Cementos Lima and Cementos Andino to merge, Peru

Peruvian cement producers Cementos Lima and Cemento Andino are to merge into a single company, the company’s said in a joint statement. Shareholders from both producers on Tuesday approved plans for the merger which will create a new company under the name of Union Andina de Cementos SAA on 1 October, the statement to Peru’s securities regulator said. Peru’s largest cement producer Cementos Lima has reported a fall of 8.8 per cent YoY in second quarter net income to PEN53.6m (US$20.3m). Revenue for the quarter was PEN293m compared with PEN257m a year earlier.

Cementos Pacasmayo, a leading Peruvian cement company, announced today its consolidated results for the first quarter period ended March 31, 2012. In 1Q12, cement demand was stronger than anticipated as volumes increased 17% compared to 1Q11. Revenues in 1Q12 increased 20.4% compared to 1Q11. Gross margin remained high at 39.4%.
