Cement dispatches in Peru declined by 5.9 per cent YoY to 0.924Mt in June 2024 from 0.928Mt in June 2023, according to ASOCEM, the Peruvian cement association. Of this total, dispatches by ASOCEM members were down 8.8 per cent to 0.842Mt in June 2024 from 0.923Mt in June 2023. UCEM acquires Ecuador’s Ecoluz SA

Gloria Group , through its subsidiary Unión Cementera Nacional SA (UCEM), has closed the purchase and sale contract for 99.998 per cent of Ecuador-based hydropower company Ecoluz SA. In May 2024 the Superintendency of Economic Competition of Ecuador approved the acquisition of all Ecoluz shares by UCEM. “Gloria Group reaffirms its commitment to investment in the Latin American market, betting on the development of the countries in the region,” concludes the Peruvian company.

Unacem to invest US$300m to reduce its carbon footprint by 2030

Peru-based Unacem Group has published its Corporate Roadmap to 2030, setting a carbon emissions target of 1500kg of CO 2 /t of cement by 2030 in all its operations, representing a reduction from 607kg, and to achieve carbon neutrality by 2050. Domestic cement dispatches in Peru slipped two per cent YoY in May 2024 to 0.958Mt from 0.977Mt in May 2023, according to the country's cement association, ASOCEM. Peru-based Cementos Pacasmayo SA reported a 7.2 per cent decline in cement, concrete and prefabricated product sales in the first quarter of 2024 to 685,700t from 738,600t in the 1Q23. Net sales slipped by 0.7 per cent to PEN476.5m in the 1Q24 from PEN480m in the year-ago period. International Finance Corporation (IFC) and Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) have provided the final tranche of a US$400m financing package to global finance group BBVA in Peru with the objective to promote sustainable construction and energy efficiency projects in the country.
