Dangote Cement clocks in with iris technology

Dangote Cement is keeping an eye on staff arrival and attendance with an iris recognition system to keep tabs on its 30,000 employees located in five countries in Africa. Dangote's operations in Nigeria, Ethiopia, Senegal, Sierra Leone and Republic of Congo will use the iris-ID system. Dangote Cement announced a 13.5 per cent rise in group revenues to NGN685.29bn (US$1.88bn) for 9M18 as sales volumes advanced 7.6 per cent to nearly 17.8Mt. Group EBITDA rose 14.6 per cent YoY to NGN337.3bn while EBITDA margins advanced from 48.8 per cent in 9M17 to 49.2 per cent in 9M18. Dangote Cement group released its 1Q18 results and reported revenue up 16.3 per cent to NGN242.1bn (US$672m). This gives Dangote a market share of approximately 66 per cent. Leocem Sierra Leone has warned on cement shortages in the west African country as the Ebola epidemic has led to a decline in the number of cargo ships coming to the capital, Freetown. Cement producer Leocem has donated EUR50,000 (US$64,500) to UNICEF as part of their contribution in the fight against the Ebola outbreak in Sierra Leone.
