South Africa 9M12 sales rise 2.9%

South Africa cement sales for the first nine months of 2012 rose 2.9 per cent to 8.529Mt from 8.290Mt in the same period of 2011, latest data from the Cement & Concrete Institute (C&CI) shows. The moving annual total also rose 3.9 per cent to 11.473Mt from 11.038Mt in the corresponding period a year a go. However, 3Q12 sales were down 3.8 per cent to 2.976Mt compared to 3.092Mt in the 3Q11.

Barloworld Logistics has taken delivery of 44 Freightliner Columbias as part of its owner-driver programme for Pretoria Portland Cement (PPC), South Africa. South Africa’s leading cement producer Pretoria Portland Cement (PPC) has acquired a 51 per cent equity stake in Rwanda-based cement producer Cimerwa Ltd. The National Regulator for Compulsory Specifications (NRCS) has confiscated some sub-standard cement imported into South Africa from Vietnam and is investigating complaints lodged about the quality of two other imported brands.
