Cemex Panama imports 1m sacks of cement

Cement manufacturer Cemex Panama has confirmed that it will import 50,000t of cement (1 million sacks). The strategy will be outlined to meet demand inthe local market, has informed the commercial director of the company, Jose Antonio Espana. During the first half of 2008 the company plans to invest US$200m in production expansion in Panama.

The lake-going vessel that brings cement to Rochester almost ran aground entering the Port of Rochester last week. The U.S. Coast Guard says the Stephen B. Roman bumped bottom, apparently hitting some shoals that formed since the ship last came to Rochester January 11th. The first consignment of SA Bureau of Standards (SABS) approved Conch cement from China has arrived in South Africa.     Lim Hong Siang, the managing director of Evermont International, said yesterday that 18 000 tons of Conch cement, in 50kg bags with SABS marks, had arrived at the Durban port last Thursday on board the Gear Bulk Shipping Group-owned MV Windfield.     Lim said the cement, which was sold to ICC UK and shipped from China, was being stored at the company’s warehouse.     He...

The government has failed to facilitate cement export, as Port Qasim and Karachi Port Trust authorities have expressed inability to provide ’dedicated berths’, saying that such an action would hurt international trade, official sources told local press.     They said that national average price of cement is around Rs230 per 50kg at some places, but the price of prime brands was Rs 243 per 50kg on March 21. China exports 2.18Mt of cement in Jan ‘07

China exported 2.183Mt  of cement in January this year, surging 28.6 per cent YoY, according to customs statistics.    The country exported 36.13Mt of cement in 2006, leaping 63.1 per cent YoY.   Its cement products were mainly produced and exported by eastern coastal cities. China’s exports to the EU and the United Arab Emirates rose sharply while those to the United States fell.    Demand for cement soared on the international market last year. 

Zambia to increase cement importation
