FWS Construction continues North American expansion

FWS Construction Ltd., a leading Western Canadian construction company, is pleased to announce it has recently been awarded a contract  to build a cement distribution terminal for Lafarge in Washington State, USA. The Company’s project for Lafarge involves the design and construction of 6500t distribution cement terminal in Spokane, Washington. This is FWS’s first project in the State of Washington.

Eight local cement producers have agreed to gradually cut their exports to zero within the next five years after Prime Minister Thaksin Shinawatra expressed concern over the industry’s impact on the environment. The Kristian Gerhard Jebsen group of Norway has emerged as buyer of the 65,000-dwt bulker Sun P (built 1981).  The Namura-built ship was reported sold for $12m to an undisclosed Norwegian buyer. Thailand:  Eight local cement manufacturers have agreed to gradually cut their exports to zero within five years, the Bangkok Post reports, quoting Nopadol Ramayarupa, chairman of the cement branch of the Federation of Thai Industries.  Local producers need five years to clear their backlogs of orders while cement exports this year would be cut to 10Mt from 12Mt in 2003, Nopadol said according to the report.   The eight producers reviewed cement exports Thursday with Commerce Ministry offici...

Iran could import 1.0Mt of cement

Iran could import 1.0Mt of cement in the next three months, Deputy Minister of Industries and Mines, Djafar Sarkini said on April 7, 2004.  The Iranian Government set a 1.5Mt cement import quota for the Iranian calendar year, ended March 19, 2004. However, the country imported only 100,000t of cement over the period. The domestic demand for cement is expected to peak in the period from April to June 2004, Sarkini added.

The price of cement has been going up these past few months due to the high demand for it, the Philippine Department of Trade and Industry Iloilo provincial director Diosdado Cadena said. Adana Cimento now exports to Iraq, and plans to enter Syrian market in April this year. Oya Tokatli, deputy General Manager of the cement manufacturer Adana Cimento, said that the company exported it products to Iraq for the first time in March, and they would enter the Syrian market as well in April.
