Fitch Ratings has affirmed Tunisian building materials group Societe des Ciments d'Enfidha (SCE) National Long-term rating of 'BBB(tun)' with Stable Outlook and National Short-term rating of 'F3(tun)'. Tunisian cement demand falls 6.5% in 4M15

In the first four months of 2015, the Tunisian cement marked contracted by 6.5 per cent YoY to 2.4Mt, according to the latest data revealed by Taoufik Khardani, deputy director of building materials industries at the country’s Ministry of Industry. However, exports were up by 28 per cent from 461,000t to 590,000t. Tunisia’s cement producers manufactured 2.98Mt of cement, down 5.6 per cent on 4M14, when 3.16Mt of cement was produced.

Semapa, the Portuguese holding company that controls Secil, said turnover in its Cement and Derivatives Business unit for the first quarter of 2015 increased by 2.4 per cent YoY to EUR99.9m. Ciments de Bizerte registers 20% drop in 1Q15 turnover

Tunisia’s Ciments de Bizerte saw its turnover fall by 19.6 per cent YoY in 1Q15 to TND11.115m. In Tunisia, the figure fell by 11.5 per cent as domestic demand fell by 9.7 per cent. However, the company noted a 84 per cent drop in exports due to the volatility of the Algerian market and the weak demand from Libya.

Spain: Cementos Portland reports EUR29.5m loss

FCC-owned Cementos Portland closed the first quarter of 2015 with a EUR29.5m loss, representing a 21.2 per cent higher figure when compared with 1Q14. Tunisia: Bizerte cuts cement price

Ciment de Bizerte is lowering its whole-sale cement price from MAD149.9/t to MAD147.9/t for bagged cement while bulk cement will cost MAD127.4/t to MAD130.4/t. Earlier Carthage Cement had announced a drop in its prices. Ciment de Bizerte forecasts a production of 1Mt in 2015 as the producer noted it was running at full capacity since the start of the year after the renovation of one of its kilns to increase capacity to 1.2Mta.

In the past few days, Carthage Cement has lowered the price of cement by TND6/t for bagged cement and TND10/t for bulk. Portugal's conglomerate Semapa, owner of cement maker Secil, posted on Friday a 15 per cent rise in nine-month net profit, helped by lower taxes on some of its overseas operations and a small increase in sales. Semapa, the Portuguese holding company that controls cement maker Secil, said turnover from its cement business operating rose 5.3 per cent YoY to EUR217.3m, driven mainly by increased exports from its home market of Portugal.
