Tunisia's domestic cement sales were up 4.37 per cent in 1Q16, but slumped 5.12 per cent by 30 June 2016. However, Ciments de Bizerte saw its domestic sales increase 65 per cent at the end of 1Q16 and by a further 24.5 per cent at the end of the second quarter. Border closure costs Cementos Molins EUR25m

The closure of the border between Tunisia and Libya and the regional political tension has seen Cementos Molins’ assets depreciate by EUR25m as exports have fallen, according to sources close to the company. Tunisia: petcoke shortage risks near-doubling cement price

Tunisia’s Industry Ministry is looking into to alternatives to alleviate the petcoke shortage in the country. Importing petcoke is proving to be difficult as El Fouledh port, temporarily tasked with importing the fuel, is not able to receive the ships and volumes required for the cement industry. Ciments de Bizerte is scheduled to complete the development project of its shipment quay by June 2016. The upgraded quay will enable the company to expand its clinker and cement exports as well as enable the unloading of petcoke for the entire domestic cement industry.

Tunisia: Carthage Cement turnover up 43% in 1Q16

Tunisian cement producer Carthage Cement posted a 43 per cent rise in turnover to TND53.472m (US$26.78m)  in 1Q16 when compared with the equivalent quarter of 2015.  Sales were strong in both domestic and export markets. Tunisian deliveries reached TND31.366m, up 33.4 per cent YoY, and increased the company’s market share to just under 18 per cent (2015: 14 per cent). Tunisia: Carthage Cement reduces debt

The overall turnover of Carthage Cement, all activities included, posted a positive growth of +55, reaching TND56.774m (US$27,816m) in the last quarter of 2015 against TND36.639m in 2014. This allowed the company to close the year 2015 with a turnover of around TND184.271m against TND169.490m in 2014. The company’s overall indebtedness at 31 December  2015 decreased by -1% to TND512.8m.

Tunisia: Ciments de Bizerte sees 1.78% turnover rise in 2015

Tunisia’s Les Ciments de Bizerte posted a turnover of TND57.177bn (US$27.9bn) in 2015, up 1.78 per cent YoY. Domestic turnover saw a rise of 14.83 per cent to TND56.9m while exports have slumped by 96.3 per cent. The export low has been attributed to the instability of the Algerian market and the near-absence of Libyan demand. The company’s indebtedness has increased by 32.9 per cent to TND97.5m from TND73.4 at the end of December 2014.

Tunisia: Ciments de Bizerte 3Q15 sales up 2.3%

Turnover of Les Ciments de Bizerte advanced 2.3 per cent YoY in 3Q15. Although sales volumes in the domestic market fell by 3.7 per cent YoY, revenues rose by 21.4 per cent YoY. The company saw a decline in export revenues on the back of a volatile market in Algeria and a lack of demand in Libya. Clinker output rose by 55,050t or 47.5 per cent when compared to 3Q14.

Carthage Cement posts 19% rise in 3Q15 turnover

Tunisia-based Carthage Cement increased its cement production by 52 per cent YoY in 3Q15. Cement turnover rose by 24 per cent during this period but clinker sales fell as the company did not sell clinker to avoid competition with its own product and promote the sales of cement, the finished product with high added value. Tunisia: CMG receives government approval for 1.2Mta plant

Ciment de la Méditerranée Gafsa SA (CMG) has received the approval of the Ministry of Industry, Energy and Mines to construct a 1.2Mta greenfield plant. The works, with a clinker capacity of 1Mta, represents an investment of around US$220m. CMG is a joint venture between Ahmed Bouchamaoui International Group, Antonio Lopez Banos and the Ricardo Mella International Group.
