Carthage’s turnover increase fourfold in first six months

Turnover by Tunisia’s newest cement producer, Carthage Cement, amounted to TND101,836m (US$59m), up 419 per cent compared to the same period of last year. Clinker and cement sales totalled TND19.262 and TND64,060, respectively during the six months to the end of June 2014. Readymix concrete activities increased by 25 per cent YoY. Aggregate sales, however, fell 28 per cent due to the absence of infrastructure public works contracts.

Tunisia: Ciments de Bizerte inaugurates plant upgrade

With the inauguration of its upgraded production unit on 17 June 2014 in the presence of the country’s industry, energy and mines, Kamel Bennaceur, Tunisia’s Ciments de Bizerte has increased its capacity by 50 per cent to more than 1.5Mta. The upgrade is the result of a TND250m (US$149m) investment programme which was initiated three years ago. It includes a modernisation of the plant’s dust control systems which will lower emissions to 20mg/Nm3.

Carthage Cement issues Provisional Performance Acceptance certificate, Tunisia

The Provisional Acceptance certificate has been issued by Carthage Cement for the 5800tpd Djebel Ressas cement plant in Tunisia, constructed by an FLSmdith-Ekon-Prokon consortium on an EPC turkney basis. The greenfield Djebel Ressas plant is the first project to be completed after the Arab Spring. According to a statement by Ekon, the plant has exceeded design figures in terms of production capacity and product quality while achieving less emissions.

Tunisian prices to rise following government subsidy cut

The price of cement in Tunisia is to rise following the announcement by Kamel Bennaceur, Minister of Energy and Mines, that the government will remove the subsidy on cement. Prices are set to increase by TND7.5-8 (US$4.6-4.9) local news sources have reported.

Carthage Cement reported a turnover of TND41.95m (US$26.45m) in the three months to March 31, 2014, up 337 per cent compared to the same period in 2013. Clinker sales reached TND16.78m during the first quarter, while sales of cement amounted to TND17.10m, including TND3.95m for export. Carthage sees strong rise in 1Q turnover

Tunisia’s Carthage Cement saw its turnover increase 337 per cent YoY to TND41.945m (US$26.53m) in 1Q14. However, its aggregates business saw sales fall 34 per cent following a three-week stoppage. The production level was affected by 22 days of social unrest in the Mornag region that prevented Carthage Cement workers to go to work, according to the management. Carthage Cement appoints new Board member, Tunisia

During Carthage Cement’s Annual General Meeting of Thursday, 13 March, Kais Jamaia was appointed as a new Board member, representing the Tunisian government. Mr Jamaia was previously a member of the General Audit Office. Since entering production last November, Carthage Cement has produced 66,599t of cement. Geometrica supplied three bulk storage structures for Carthage Cement’s Djebel Ressas cement works, Tunisia’s largest and newest cement facility. Tunisia: Bizerte to raise output 50% in early 2014

Bizerte Cement management expects to increase its production in early 2014 by 50 per cent to reach 1.5Mta. It attributes the rise to its new production unit, which will enter service.  The TUD141m new line, of which construction started in September 2011, will extend the life of the company by 35 years, according to Bizerte’s technical management.

Carthage Cement officially inaugurated its new cement plant in Tunisia on 5 October. The opening ceremony was attended by Mr. Ridha Saidi, Minister in charge of Economic Affairs, Mr. Mehdi Jomaa, Minister of Industry and Mr. Elyes Fakhfakh, Minister of Finance.
