Cemex terminals achieve Energy Star Challenge

Two Cemex USA terminals have achieved the US Environmental Protection Agency's Energy Star® Challenge for Industry by reducing greenhouse gas emissions through energy conservation. The terminals, located in La Mirada and San Diego (CA), each reduced their energy consumption by more than 10 per cent. Total shipments of Portland and blended cement in the US and Puerto Rico in March 2017 were about 7.5Mt, slightly less than sales in March 2016, the US Geological Survey (USGS) reported yesterday. Holcim Ada plant (LafargeHolcim group) unveiled its upgraded plant at its Ada, Oklahoma, USA, after a three-year modernisation project. The US Environmental Protection Agency announced an agreement with the Nevada Cement Company to install new air pollution control technology at its Nevada facility and replace a heavy-duty diesel truck and a diesel railcar mover at the facility with clean emissions vehicles. Today’s agreement improves Nevada Cement’s compliance with federal clean air laws and resolves alleged violations of the Clean Air Act.
