US April shipments decline marginally

Preliminary data from the US Geological Survey shows that shipments of Portland and blended cement in 1Q13 were marginally higher compared to the same period of last year but harsh weather conditions, particularly in the final month of the quarter, dragged on sales. Total shipments of Portland and blended cements in the US and Puerto Rico in 2012 reached 79Mta, up by about nine per cent YoY, according to the latest data from the US Geological Survey. Imports for the year to December 2012, meanwhile, were up by about eight per cent YoY. Total shipments of Portland and blended cement in the United States and Puerto Rico for March 2012 were nearly 6Mt, data from the US Geological Survey showed. This was 11% higher than shipments in March 2011. Shipments for the year through March were 15.2 Mt, up by about 20%.
