Vietnam produced 3.8Mt of cement in February, down 9.5 per cent from January but an increase of 35.3 per cent YoY, according to the latest data from the government’s General Statistics Office (GSO). Vietnam sold 8.4Mt of cement in the first two months of this year, up 6.7 per cent from a year earlier, the Ministry of Construction said. Vicem: January cement and clinker output declines

State-owned Vietnam Cement Industry Corp (Vicem) saw output in January fall to 1.44Mt, a 9.4 per cent decline from December 2013 and 19.5 per cent reduction YoY. Of the total, 986,000t of cement and clinker were sold in the domestic market, down 28.8 per cent MoM and 40.2 per cent YoY, while 456,000t were exported, up 120.3 per cent MoM and 219 per cent YoY, respectively. Vietnam’s domestic sales declined by 18.6 per cent YoY in the first month of this year to 2.93Mt due to subdued real estate activity, the country’s Ministry of Construction (MoC) has said. Authorities of the Quang Tri province in central Vietnam are to withdraw the investment licence of a cement plant project due to sluggish implementation. Ministry of Construction (MoC), said cement output in 2013 hit 70Mt while sales rose 14 per cent YoY to 61Mt. Vietnam's Jan cement output increases

Vietnam is estimated to produce 4.8Mt of cement in January, up three per cent YoY but down 13.24 per cent from December 2013, the government General Statistics Office said in a monthly report. The office revised down the country’s cement output in December 2013 to 5.5Mt the earlier estimated figure of 5.7Mt. In 2013, Vietnam’s cement output hit 56.84Mt, according to the revised figure.

Sai Son Cement reverses losses, Vietnam

Vietnamese producer Sai Son Cement (SCJ) swung to a net profit of VND7.1bn (US$80,648) in the fourth quarter of 2013 after a net loss of VND2bn in the same period the year before. Revenue amounted to VND104bn (US$4.93m) in the final quarter of last year, compared to VND72bn over the same period of the previous year. For the full year, SCJ reported VND7.6bn net profit on revenue of VND320bn compared to a loss of VND12bn in net profit and VND251.3bn revenue, respectively.
