Indonesia ranks Vietnam’s top importer over Jan-May 2014

Indonesia accounted for the largest share of Vietnam’s exports over the first five months of this year, according to data from the Vietnamese Ministry of Industry and Trade. Indonesia imported 1.27Mt of cement and clinker from Vietnam, representing 12 per cent of sales over the January-May 2014 period. Vietnam: Long Son Cement project could get go ahead

Vietnamese deputy prime minister, Hoang Trung Hai, is considering a proposal from the Ministry of Construction to add the Long Son cement project in the central province of Thanh Hoa to the national master plan for the cement industry in the 2011-20 period, with a vision to 2030. Vietnam first-half cement output rises 7%

Vietnam produced 29.5Mt of cement in the first half of this year, up seven per cent YoY, the government’s General Statistics Office (GSO) has said. The figure includes 5.4Mt sold in June, up 19 per cent, the office added. The GSO has, however, revised down the country’s cement output in May to 5.4Mt from the earlier estimated figure of 5.5Mt. In 2013, Vietnam’s cement output hit 56.84Mt, according to the revised figure.

Vicem production up 5.1% per cent in first five months

Vietnam Cement Industry Corporation (Vicem) produced 7.34Mt of cement in the first five months of this year, rising 5.1 per cent from a year ago and fulfilling 39 per cent of the whole-year target. The corporation’s clinker output, however, fell by three per cent YoY to 6.63Mt in the period, meeting 38.4 per cent of the full-year target. Semen Indonesia to fund Thang Long expansion

State-run cement producer Semen Indonesia is planning to spend US$300m to establish a new plant in Vietnam as part of its business expansion in southeast Asia. The new facility will be in the south of the country, near the company’s limestone mine. Vietnam sees cement demand pick up

The Vietnam National Cement Association (Vicem) says domestic cement consumption in the first five months of 2014 reached 20.42Mt, up 9.3 per cent on the same period last year. In the last month alone, cement consumption in the country was estimated at 4.87Mt, increasing 12 per cent against May 2013. State-owned Vietnam Cement Industry Corporation (Vicem), the country's leading cement producer recorded a seven per cent rise in sales over the first four months of the year boosted by an increase in exports. In the January-April 2014 period, Vicem sold  7.4Mt, surpassing the initial target by 13.5 per cent. Companies in Vietnam sold 6.07Mt of cement in May, up 9.7 per cent from a year ago, including 4.77Mt sold at the domestic market, rising by 11.9 per cent YoY, the Vietnam Building Material Department under the Ministry of Construction has said. Vietnam is estimated to have produced 5.5Mt of cement in May, up four per cent from April and 9.8 per cent from a year ago, according to data from the government’s General Statistics Office (GSO) said.?? Vietnam exported 8.38Mt of cement and clinker worth US$355m in the first four months of this year, up 41 and 43 per cent in terms of volume and value, respectively, the General Department of Vietnam Customs said.
