Vietnam 2012 sales fall 3.5% YoY

Total cement sales in Vietnam (domestic plus exports) in 2012 fell 3.5 per cent YoY to 54Mt. State-owned Indonesian cement producer PT  Semen Gresik achieved record production last year and targets further increases this year, according to a senior member of the company. Vietnam produced 51.3Mt of cement in the first 11 months of this year, down 5.4 per cent from a year earlier, the General Statistics Office said. Indonesia’s leading cement producer PT Semen Gresik expects cement production to increase by 18 per cent next year, however, it has hinted that domestic sales growth could slow next year compared to the robust figures expected in 2012. The National Regulator for Compulsory Specifications (NRCS) has confiscated some sub-standard cement imported into South Africa from Vietnam and is investigating complaints lodged about the quality of two other imported brands.
