Holcim Philippines sees surge in full-year net profit

Holcim Philippines has reported an 80 per cent YoY rise in net profit as it gains from improvements in operating and process efficiencies as well as a strong rebound in local demand. Net profit for the 12 months to the end of December 2012 climbed to PHP3.63bn from PHP2.03bn the year before. Revenues also rose 25.62 per cent from PHP21.62bn to PHP27.16bn. The Ecuadorian cement market expanded for a second year running as the Ecuadorian Institute of Cement and Concrete (Inecyc) reported a 5.6 per cent rise in dispatches. In 2012, the market absorbed 6.025Mt, an increase of 319,422t when compared with previous year’s figure. Per capita consumption rose from 386kg to 388kg in 2012. Vietnam sees declines in MoM domestic and export sales

Cement producers in Vietnam sold 3.6Mt to the domestic market in January, down 16.28 per cent from the month before due to a stagnant real estate market. Full-year 2012 results published by global cement major Lafarge showed strong growth in emerging markets and improvements in operational performance, and it now expects to meet most of its cost-cutting goal one year ahead of target.   Lafarge's turnover increased 3.5 per cent last year to EUR15,816m and EBITDA by 7.2 per cent to EUR3450m. Fauji Cement reported a rise in net profit in the first half of FY13 compared to a loss in the same period of last year. The Pakistan-based producer also reported a strong rise in revenue due to higher selling prices. Chilean cement producer Cementos Bio Bio increased its production by eight per cent YoY from 1.5Mt to 1.6Mt in 2012. As a result, the company, led by Hernan Briones, was able to maintain its 29 per cent market share. Argentina’s cement plants deliver 4.4% more cement in January 2013

Argentine cement plants delivered 913,336t of cement in January 2013, according to the latest data published by the country’s cement association AFCP. The January figure represents a 12.9 per cent increase MoM while when compared with January 2012, cement deliveries advanced by 4.4 per cent. Domestic dispatches, including imports, rose 12.8 per cent to 888,602t on the previous month, while YoY the increase was 3.2 per cent.

Spanish cement producers have had a frosty start to the year as cement consumption continues to fall. January 2013 data show a 21.5 per cent decrease to 892,783t from 1.138Mt recorded in January 2012, according to the country’s cement association Oficemen.
