Katavsky Cement sets new production record, Russia

Katavsky Cement, part of Russian market leader Eurocement Group, produced 146,008t of cement in August 2012, surpassing last year’s record of 138,005t. Brazilian monthly sales up 7.3 per cent YoY

Cement consumption in the Brazilian market totaled 6.3Mt in August, representing a rise of 7.3 per cent YoY, data from Sindicato Nacional da Indústria de Cimento (SNIC) shows. August 2012 sales were up 4.2 per cent on a month-on-month basis from July 2012. Total domestic shipments for the first eight months of 2012 reached 45.17Mt, representing a YoY increase of 8.5 per cent, the association data showed.

Argentina sees August declines

In August 2012, Argentina cement producers shipped 860,601t, including exports, a decrease of 5.6 per cent from July and down 16.5 per cent on August 2011. The latest data from Asociacion de Fabricantes de Cemento (AFCP) shows domestic shipments in August reached 841,124t, representing a decline of seven per cent from the previous month and a fall of 16.6 per cent compared to August 2011.    

Indonesian August sales dip

Indonesia's domestic cement sales fell 0.1 per cent in August from a year ago, data from PT Semen Gresik Tbk showed on Wednesday. August sales were 3.6Mt, the lowest since September last year, down 25.2 per cent on a monthly basis, the data said. Greek construction activity shrank by an annual 12 per cent in the first half of 2012, leaving the industry on course for a seventh consecutive year of contraction as the cement industry heads towards a quarter of 2006 peak levels. Kazakhstan-based cement producer Steppe Cement Ltd posted a consolidated loss after tax of US$0.1m for the six months ended 30 June 2012. Revenue six months ended June 30 were US$52.16m (2011: $43.06m) while pretax profit was US$391,000 (2011 loss: US$2.84m). Colombian production fell 1.4 per cent in July 2012 compared to the same month in 2011, while shipments for the period were ahead by 3.3 per cent. The country’s statistical office, Dane, shows that shipments for July 2012 were 879,000t. Capacity utilisation of the Pakistan cement industry declined to 68.29 per cent in the first two months of the current fiscal (FY12-13), the lowest level in a decade figures from the All Pakistan Cement Manufacturers Association (APCMA) show.
