Pacific Cement Ltd completes upgrades to mill

Fiji's longest-running cement manufacturer, Pacific Cement Ltd, has completed major upgrades to its cement mill, according the Fiji Sun. The renovation of the mill means that it can now produce 25tph, an increase compared to the 20-22tph rate seen previously. A number of projects in Uganda are expected to commence operation this year, taking total cement production to 6.8Mta from 3.6Mta, reports Ugandan newspaper The Independent. Hima Cement’s new 1Mta facility in Tororo is expected to open in 1Q18 and will take the company’s overall capacity to 1.8Mta. Rise in cement consumption prompts expansion plans in Sri Lanka

Cement consumption in Sri Lanka increased by 25.3 per cent YoY in 2016, to 7.99Mt from 6.37Mt. While local cement production also rose by 17.8 per cent to 2.69Mt from 2.28Mt in 2015, imports increased 29.5 per cent to 5.29Mt from 4.09Mt in 2015. The now-quoted Cimpor subsidiary Loma Negra is to invest some US$350m in the construction of an additional production line at its L’Amali works in Olavarría, Buenos Aires province, Argentina. The construction of the new kiln and two vertical roller mills as well as a complete system for bagging and palletising should be completed during 2020. This investment should increase the capacity by around 40 per cent to 2.7Mta.

Penna Cement Industries Ltd has ordered a Loesche VRM for its plant in Boyareddypalli, Andhra Pradesh.The four-roller mill will grind petcoke with a throughput capacity of 52tph. The order will be fulfilled by Loesche at the beginning of next year. Penna Cement Industries has a total production capacity of 7Mta and is primarily active in the southern and western regions of India. The company wants to expand the capacity at its operations in Boyareddypalli from 2Mta to 4.6Mta.

Holcim Argentina has announced a US$120m investment to raise cement capacity at its Malagueño plant by 45 per cent.
