Cement demand in Spain shows double-digit growth

Cement demand in Spain expanded by 11 per cent in the 12 months up to January 2018 when compared with the year-ago rolling year, according to the new Cement Barometer, prepared by Oficemen, the country’s cement association. The latest figure has seen domestic consumption rise for 11 consecutive months with YoY double-digit increases noted in the past two months. However, cement and clinker exports have continued their decline, falling 10 per cent in 2017.

Pakistan exports revenue of cement during the first eight months of FY17-18, recorded a YoY fall of 13.4 per cent and 16.9 per cent in quantity and value in dollars, respectively, says data released by Federal Bureau of Statistics, Government of Pakistan. Egypt’s cement exports increased 79 per cent in January 2018 to reach US$7m, compared to US$4m in the year-ago period, according to a report from the country's Export Council for Building Materials. This follows a recent 194 per cent rise in cement exports to Yemen, which contributed US$1.3m in January. Exports to Kenya boomed, advancing 6630 per cent to US$1.9m from US$29,000. Turkish cement export up 7% in 2017

Turkey's cement exports rose 6.9 per cent YoY to 8Mt in 2017, according to the Turkish Cement Manufacturers’ Association (TCMB). Turkey produced 81Mt of cement and clinker in 2017, up 6.8 per cent when compared with 2016. Of this total, 9.9 per cent was exported, said the TCMB. Most exports were destined for the USA, but the largest increase in export volumes was to Haiti.

Cement demand in Peru increased by 1.4 per cent YoY in February 2018 to 0.824Mt from 0.812Mt, according to the latest data by Asocem, the country’s cement association. PPC Zimbabwe says it will leverage on an enhanced export incentive which the cement producer has been granted by the Reserve Bank of Zimbabwe (RBZ) to break even and resume exports despite high production costs, according to The Zimbabwe Independent. In February 2018 Vietnam exported 2.6Mt of cement, representing a hike of 30 per cent YoY, according to Vietnam’s Ministry of Construction. Domestic cement consumption rose 11 per cent YoY to 5Mt. For the first two months of 2018, nearly 18.6Mt of cement were sold, including 5.5Mt exported, representing a rise of 121 per cent when compared with January-February 2017.

Brazilian cement demand reached 3.872Mt in February 2018, down 0.8 per cent from 3.902Mt reported in the year-ago period, according to the latest data from the country's cement association, SNIC.
