Brazilian sales over the first eight months of this year fell 6.8 per cent YoY to 43.7Mt compared to the 46.9Mt sold in 2014, according to preliminary data and market estimates gathered by Brazilian cement association Sindicato Nacional da Indústria de Cimento (SNIC). The value of cement imports into Algeria during the first seven months of 2015 fell from US$352.92m to US$306.94m, down 13 per cent YoY, according to Customs data. Construction costs in Costa Rica are lower due to the import of Chinese cement, according to local news service La Republica. Chinese imports retail at around 20 per cent below cement produced locally by Cemex and Holcim. In August 2015 Argentina’s cement producers dispatched 981,621t of cement (including exports), down 8.6 per cent MoM and 2.2 per cent YoY, according to the country's cement association, AFCP. Shipments of Portland and blended cement in the US and Puerto Rico over the first half of 2015 totalled around 40.78Mt, preliminary data from the US Geological Survey shows. Of the total, imports accounted for 4.07Mt. In June alone, shipments reached 8.935Mt, including 930,581t of imports. Meanwhile, clinker production over the six month period totalled 35.3Mt, with output in June reported to be just over 7Mt.

Argentina: July cement demand climbs 12.6% YoY

The Argentinean cement market expanded by 1.3 per cent MoM and 12.6 per cent YoY in July 2015, according to domestic cement producers’ association, AFCP.
