US October shipments down 2.2% YoY

Total shipments of Portland and blended cement in the US and Puerto Rico in October 2015 were about 9.3Mt, down by 2.2 per cent from the level in October 2014, data from the US Geological Survey (USGS) shows. Peru’s cement dispatches remained stable in December 2015 as they reached 881,000t while total dispatches edged up one per cent to 928,000t, according to Asocem, the country’s cement producers’ association. Canada cement production down 12.2% MoM

Cement manufacturers in Canada produced 1.11Mt of cement products in November, down 12.2 per cent from October, according to the country's national statistical agency. Data from Statistics Canada show domestic cement shipments fell 15 per cent from October to 1.08Mt in November. Including imports, shipments were down 19.9 per cent to 1.10Mt.

Brazil sees full-year fall in sales

Brazilian cement sales in 2015 declined by 9.2 per cent YoY to 64.4Mt, preliminary data and market estimates published by Sindicato Nacional da Indústria do Cimento (SNIC) reveal. Dispatches were down in all five regions, with the steepest annual declines registered in Central-West (-12.5 per cent) and Southeast (-10.9 per cent), followed by the North (-7.8 per cent), South (-6.9 per cent) and Northeast (-5.7 per cent). In December 2015 Argentina’s cement producers dispatched 937,907t of cement, including exports, which represents a fall of 5.9 per cent MoM but a 3.6 per cent increase YoY, according to provisional figures published by AFCP, the country’s cement association. South Africa has imposed final anti-dumping duties on Portland cement originating in or imported from Pakistan, ranging between 14.29 and 77.15 per cent, effective 18 December 2015. All Pakistan Cement Manufacturers Association (APCMA) has requested the Ministry of Finance to impose regulatory duty on cement imports from Iran to save the local industry. Following the Great Recession when US cement prices contracted for five years, they appear to be back in the lift. In 2013-14 domestic prices increased  by five per cent YoY.
