US February shipments – preliminary data

Total shipments of blended cement in the US and Puerto Rico in February 2014 including imports reached 4.73Mt, preliminary data from the USGS show. Domestic shipments totalled 4.37Mt for the month while imports amounted to 359,856t. Shipments over the Jan-Feb 2014 reached 9.56Mt, the statistics released yesterday reveal. Cement consumption in France increased 6.6 per cent to 4.386Mt in 1Q14 compared to 4.115Mt in the same period of last year, according provisional data released by French cement association SFIC. Domestic producers delivered 4.04Mt with the balance supplied by imports. Total shipments of Portland and blended cement in the United States and Puerto Rico in January were 4.9Mt, up slightly from the January 2013 level, USGS data released today shows. The leading Portland cement-producing states in January were Texas, California, Florida, Missouri and Alabama, in descending order. Bolivia expects to cease cement imports in 2017

In 2017, Bolivia will no longer require cement imports following the launch of production at the Ecebol plant, according to Patricia Ballivian, general manager of the Productive Public Enterprises Development Service (Sedemp). To alleviate the present cement shortage, Groupe Industriel des Ciments d’Algérie (GICA) has appointed Star Commercial Ltd of the British Virgin Islands to import 240,000t of cement.
