State-owned Bangladesh Chemical Industries Corp (BCIC) has threatened to withdraw from a Saudi-Bangladesh joint venture under which a cement factory is to be built in Sylhet's Chhatak borough, Bangladesh. Ambuja Cements has formed a new, wholly-owned subsidiary called Ambuja Shipping Services Ltd (ASSL). Attock Cement Pakistan Ltd has planned to outsource raw materials for its cement plant at Hub Choki in the Balochistan province from January 2023 to June 2023. Work begins on Ramco Cement's expansion

Work has reportedly begun on the second production line at Ramco Cement ’s grinding plant in Haridaspur , Jaipur District, Odisha, India. The US$16m expansion project will increase capacity at the plant from 0.9Mta to 1.8Mta. The company received environmental clearance for the new line in May 2022 and expects the project to be completed in the 1QFY25. 

Hetauda Cement Factory reopens

Nepal’s Hetauda Cement Factory has reopened after closing for around one month due to the breakdown of its pre-filter fan and electric motor. The plant produces 12,000-16,000 bags of cement each day, supplying Kathmandu, Pokhara, Bhairahawa, Dhangadhi, Nepalgunj and Biratnagar. Local residents had reportedly complained about cement dust affecting their health, according to Khabarhub. The problem has now been resolved, said Basanta Raj Pandey, general manager of the plant.

Bangladesh’s cement industry is expanding with clinker imports rising for the last five fiscal years. According to the Chittagong Port Authority (CPA), the main seaport of Bangladesh, the authority handled 35.130Mt of clinker imports in the financial year 2021-22 (July–June), compared to 33.297Mt in the year-ago period, marking growth of 5.52 per cent.
