Uganda approves mining licence for Karamoja cement plant

The Ugandan government has granted a 21-year large-scale mining licence to Sunbird Resources Ltd to build a cement plant in Moroto district, Karamojo region, northeastern Uganda. Sunbird will produce 6000tpd and 1Mta of cement at the plant. The licence will enable Sunbird Resources to mine 8000tpd of limestone in Rupa sub-county. NeoCem to build 100,000tpa calcined clay plant

Following four years of research NeoCem will install the company's first calcined clay production line in Saint-Maximin, near Senlis, France. The facility will have a capacity of 100,000tpa. To produce the cement, the company will use a flash calcination process, whereby the clay is crushed, dried and heated to 750˚C. Ambuja Cements will invest INR14bn (US$168.3m) in the construction of a 6Mta cement plant in Telangana, India. The plant will be built on a 70-acre plot, said the company in a regulatory filing. Ambuja Cements is part of the Adani Cement Industries and operates 36.5Mta of cement capacity installed in 16 cement plants across India.

Zimbabwe announces new cement plant

A new US$1bn cement plant project has been launched in Karoi Town, Zimbabwe. New cement plant on track for Kyrgyzstan

A new cement plant is set to launch in Chuy region, Kyrgyzstan in 2024. The plant will have a capacity of 1.7Mta and is expected to create 650 jobs. The plant will use ash dumps from the Bishkek Thermal Power Plant as raw materials and will have a waste heat recovery system to generate electricity. Ambuja Cements , part of Adani Cement Industries , saw profit quadruple in the 2QFY23-24 to INR6440m (US$77.4m) from INR1390m in the year-ago quarter.
