Cemento Rocafuerto, a subsidiary of Guatemala-based Cemento Progreso, has opened Belize’s first cement plant at Mile 34 of the George Price Highway, near the capital Belmopan, in the presence of the country’s Prime Minister, John Briceño. LafargeHolcim subsidiary Holcim México saw the commissioning of its new 0.65Mta grinding plant in Umán, Yucatán. The Umán plant will be supplied with clinker from production facilities in Macuspana, Tabasco, and Orizaba, Veracruz. Cementos Concepción (Cecon) in Paraguay has completed around 70 per cent of the civil engineering works at its new plant, according to Esmerk Latin American News. The 1.03Mta plant is located in Concepción, San Lázaro, south of Vallemí. The US$200m project is expected to start production in August 2022.

New Agadir plant to enter production in July

LafargeHolcim’s new cement plant in Souss-Massa, 45km southwest of Agadir, Morocco, is expected to be commissioned at the end of July. The 1.6Mta plant represents an investment of MAD3bn (US$334.6m) and is equipped with the latest technologies, in line with the company’s “Plant of Tomorrow” concept. It will include automation, robotic, artificial intelligence and predictive maintenance technologies. Moreover, from 2023, the plant will be supplied with wind power and use alternative fuels.

Sacko Holding to build new plant in Mali

Sacko Holding SA, a private Mali-based company, has finalised the funding of a US$300m cement plant in Bema, 30km from Diéma on the Noro du Sahel road, Mali. Interoceanicos to build cement plant in Puno

Peru-based Cementos Interoceanicos has signed an agreement with Satarem to build a 1Mta cement and two lime plants in Puno, Peru, in the next 18 months. The cement producer expects to enter the area’s cement and lime markets in the next two years. The project represents an investment of US$158m. Satarem aims to have a 30 per cent stake in the shareholding of Cementos Interoceanicos as a result of the agreement.

Chile-based Cemento Melón expects to see its new US$30m Punta Arenas grinding plant to be commissioned by June 2021, reports La Prensa Austral. Côte d’Ivoire’s Minister of Trade and Industry, Souleymane Diarrassouba, inaugurated the new cement plant of Société Ciment Côte d’Ivoire (SCCI) in the PK24 Industrial zone of Akoupé-Zeudji. SCCI commissioned a 1.5Mta cement plant, which represents an investment of XOF60bn (US$110.55m). The new production unit is expected to create 300 direct jobs and 1069 indirect jobs. SCCI is a subsidiary of Atlantic Financial Group, owned by local businessman Kone Dossongui.
