Pakistan: cement sales climb to 4.9Mt

For the first two months of the current fiscal year (July-August 2016) Pakistan's total cement dispatches increased 14 per cent to 4.9Mt when compared to the 4.3Mt recorded in the same period last year. The increase is a result of growing domestic sales, which in August rose by 21 per cent YoY to 3.03Mt, up from 2.5Mt. PPC increase revenue and volumes in 3QFY15-16

PPC reported a nine per cent YoY rise in quarterly sales revenue, commenting that sales revenue in South Africa increased two per cent and volumes by at least nine per cent in the company's 3QFY15-16. Sagar Cements’ reported production and sales figures for June 2016 are down when compared to the figures from June 2015. Cement production stood at 130,035t in June 2016, a one per cent drop from the 130,905t reported in June 2015. Sales figures for the month stood at 123,409t, down 20 per cent from 154,032t reported in the same month the previous year. For the year 2015 three major cement producers in Romania saw an increase in both sales and profits. Holcim Romania increased its sales by 15 per cent in 2015, achieving a turnover of EUR253m (US$287.5m). The company also reported a net profit of EUR29m, 81 per cent higher compared to 2014. Sales for Sino Zimbabwe Cement Company (SZCC) have declined by 15 per cent in the first quarter, in comparison with the same period last year. A further decline in sales this quarter has been projected by the company, which has cited a difficult operating environment and liquidity problems as some of the reasons for the decline. Following the acquisition of PT Lafarge Cement Indonesia, Holcim Indonesia increased its domestic production capacity by 1.6Mta to 15Mta, the company said in a statement. Preliminary industry data and market estimates published by Sindicato Nacional da Indústria do Cimento (SNIC) indicate that cement sales in the Brazilian cement market reached 4.9Mt in November 2015, down 16 per cent compared to the same month a year earlier.
