Puerto Rican cement sales fall 16% in November

Overall cement sales in Puerto Rico fell by 15.8 per cent YoY in November, representing a modes improvements when compared with the previous two months. Output from Puerto Rico's cement plants decreased 24.1 per cent YoY, following a drop of 52.9 per cent reported the previous month. In 2016 cement sales fell 12.3 per cent YoY while production saw an 11.5 per cent decrease during the same period.

Cement plants in Pakistan reach 95% capacity utilisation

Cement plants in Pakistan reached 94.65 per cent capacity utilisation during the July-November period of 2017, according to The Nation. In November 2017 the country recorded a 9.89 per cent increase in domestic consumption. Paraguay’s INC announces record sales in November

Industria Nacional del Cemento (INC) announced record sales of 1.2m bags in November 2017. Jorge Méndez, president of the Paraguayan cement producer, said the company sold 1,249,065 bags of Cemento Vallemi, a sign that the market is returning to growth. He added that the company successfully switched from fuel oil to petcoke to fire its kiln, which has enabled the company to generate significant cost savings. Anhui Conch Cement has ordered a hydraulic drilling rig for its cement production project in TongChuan, Shaanxi province, China. The US$1.7m rig is being supplied by Atlas Copco and is due for delivery in February 2018. It will be installed at the limestone mine supplying the company’s cement plant in Tongchuan. Paraguay’s Industria Nacional del Cemento (INC) has sold 10,876,593 bags of cement in the first 10 months of 2017, a drop of 17.6 per cent YoY, according to the company’s sales department. In October, sales improved by nine per cent YoY from 982,868 bags in October 2016 to 1,075,196 bags in October 2017. State-owned Vietnam Cement Industry Corp (Vicem), the country’s leading cement producer, sold 20.93Mt of cement in the first 10 months of 2017. The volume reflects a drop of 1.1 per cent YoY. Mexican cement producer Grupo Cementos Chihuahua (GCC) announced a 22.6 per cent YoY rise in consolidated net sales to MXN4497m in 2Q17 from MXN3669m (US$242.4m).  The company derives the majority of its sales in the US, where net sales advanced 28.9 per cent YoY to MXN3455m in 2Q17. State-owned Vietnam Cement Industry Corp (Vicem) sold around 25.8Mt of cement and clinker in 2016, representing a YoY rise of 11.2 per cent and surpassing the year’s target by 11 per cent.
