Brazil’s cement sales up 2% in November

Cement sales in the Brazilian market between January and November 2018 totalled 48.7Mt, representing a 1.2 per cent fall YoY, according to the National Union of the Cement Industry (SNIC). Apparent consumption of cement, which includes domestic sales plus imports, slipped 1.5 per cent YoY to 49Mt. Dangote Zambia sees surge in cement sales

Dangote Cement Zambia Ltd  has reported a 40.9 per cent rise in sales to 768,000t of cement in the first nine months of 2018 supported by an increase in demand for housing and infrastructure. “We remain positive about the future as a business because of the increased cement demand from construction sector. We have claimed over 40 percent of the market simply because it is a preferred brand,” said Albert Corcos, Dangote’s CEO for east and southern Africa.

Vietnam surpasses annual sales targets

The Vietnamese cement industry has surpassed its annual sales target of 83-85Mt in the first 10-months of 2018, on the back of high demand in global markets. India’s Sagar Cements has reported that its consolidated cement production increased 27.2 per cent in September 2018, rising to 256,507Mt from 201,690Mt. Furthermore, consolidated cement sales advanced 21.8 per cent to 249,882Mt, compared with 205,097Mt of the year-ago period.

PT Indocement recorded a one per cent YoY increase in cement sales in August 2018, in line with national cement consumption growth. In August 2018 PT Semen Indonesia sold 20.67Mt of cement, up four per cent compared to the same period a year earlier. Domestic sales came in at 16.93Mt while exports reached 1.99Mt during the month, an increase of 42.7 per cent YoY. The company is reportedly aiming for exports of 3Mta this year, equivalent to IDR4.44trn (US$297,687), to help boost plant utilisation rates. Most exports from Semen Indonesia are destined for Sri Lanka, Tahiti, Timor Leste, Tonga, UAE, Philippines and China.

State-owned Vietnam Cement Industry Corp (Vicem) reported cement and clinker sales of 18.88Mt in the first eight months of this year. This represents an increase of 11.5 per cent when compared with 8M17. Vietnam exports continue to soar to record levels

Vietnamese exports of cement and clinker soared to 2.251Mt in July 2018, up 61 per cent YoY.
