Fiji: Chinese clinker offloaded at Suva Port

Pacific Cement Ltd of Fiji is receiving a 22,000t shipment of imported Chinese clinker, according to Tomu Raturaga, boarding officer at Carpenters Shipping. The cargo is reportedly offloading from the vessel Mount Adams at Suva Port and will be destined for the cement producer’s 0.2Mta grinding plant in Lami. Kenya: clinker tops Mombasa port imports

According to a recent report from Kenya Ports Authority (KPA), Mombasa port has recorded an increase in the number of imported construction materials. KPA’s report suggests a strengthening of the local construction sector as import figures of the construction materials are increasing each week. Philippines: clinker delivery to Taiheiyo facility runs aground

Bulk carrier MV Belle Rose was refloated last week having run aground on Monad Shoal off the Philippines, the Manila Bulletin reports. Environmental activists have called on the ship’s owners to bear the cost of repairing the environmental damage caused when the ship struck the reef, which is a popular tourist destination. The ship was carrying 48,000t of clinker to the Taiheiyo Cement facility in Naga City.

Less than six months after the first LNG-fuelled cement carrier was launched, JT Cement has launched the MV Ireland, a dedicated cement carrier powered by LNG. LNG-powered dedicated cement carrier to be launched

The first cement carrier to run on LNG is to be launched at the yard of Ferus Smit, Westerbroek, The Netherlands (y/n 423) on 31 October and be named the Greenland. The vessel will be of 5800dwt and is being built for Thun Shipmanagement, Lidköping, Sweden. She will be operated by JT Cement, a joint venture between KG Jebsen of Norway and Eric Thun of Sweden.

Romeo Group places order for carrier with Ningbo Xinle

Italian shipowners Giovanni and Vincenzo Romeo have just ordered a new 6700dwt cement carrier with delivery scheduled for 2017. A newbuilding contract has been signed with Ningbo Xinle shipyard in China, according to a report by Splash news.
