Offloading of clinker continues at Chittagong Port in Bangladesh

Offloading of imported raw materials for the cement industry continues at the Chittagong Port of Bangladesh (CPA), even as the port suffers container storage congestion. According to the CPA, 22 vessels are currently at outer anchorage at the port, each laden with more than 45,000t to 50,000t of clinker, while seven of them are unloading cargoes and able to work without interruption. Cement vessel sinks off Oaxaca coast

A general cargo ship by the name of Duban, loaded with some 1500t of cement, sank 13nm off of the coast of Oaxaca, southern Mexican state on Pacific coast, in the afternoon of 12 March, while en route to Manzanillo. Russian producers increase railway distribution in 2019

Russian cement manufacturers shipped over 26.21Mt of cement by railway in 2019, an increase of four per cent YoY against 2018. The top regions for consumption of cement delivered by railway in 2019 were Moscow region (1.99Mt tons, +12.3 per cent YoY), the Republic of Tatarstan (1.79Mt, +7.2 per cent), Moscow (1.7Mt, +15.3 per cent), Krasnodar region (1.55Mt, -13.9 per cent), and Khanty-Mansi Autonomous Area (1.15Mt, +4.8 per cent).

Work starts to salvage Bangladesh clinker vessel

The Bangladesh authorities have started the salvage operation of a partly capsized clinker-laden cargo vessel called Md Dudu Mia-1, in Kirtankhola river, in the country earlier this week. A foreign vessel laden with clinker was arrested in Bangladesh yesterday. No details immediately are available for the vessel's arrest.

Maltese cement carrier refloated in Gulf of Saloniki

Cement carrier Sirios Cement I, which was loaded with a cargo of cement, ran aground in the Gulf of Saloniki, Greece, on its way to Italy on Saturday 14 September. The ship was refloated after four hours work with the help of tugs and taken back to Thessaloniki Port for inspection. Built in 1981, Sirios Cement I has a 13550dwt and travels under the Maltese flag.

Taiwan Cement's shipping subsidiary orders bulk carriers

Taiwan Cement has announced that its shipping subsidiary, Ta-ho Maritime, has placed an order at Japanese yard Sumitomo Heavy Industries for three 84,200dwt kamsarmax bulk carriers. The shipbuilding contract comprises a firm order for two ships at US$35m each and option for an additional ship. The company will decide on the execution of the option before 30 September 2019.
