Ghana Cement Company (GHACEM) has warned retailers not to inflate the price of the product, as there is currently no justification for an increase. Somani bags US$7.4m export order to Iran

Somani Cement Company Ltd said it had bagged an export order to Iraq worth Rs332m (US$7.4m).  The order is for a leading company based in Iraq and it would be executed within fiscal 2005-06, the company said. The company added it also planned to set up a new cement plant at Mahuva in Gujarat with a capacity of 2500tpd. Japan cement exports totalled 627,000t in January 2005, down 18.5 per cent year-on-year, the Japan Cement Association (JCA) said on March 1, 2005.  The figure marked a year-on-year decrease for the second consecutive month. Japan’s overall cement exports were influenced negatively mainly by the decrease in exports to China. Cement prices in Maharashtra to rise

Cement prices in India’s western state of Maharashtra, the country’s biggest construction market, is set rise by 1.7 per cent from Tuesday, on the back of strong demand from home builders, a trade official told Reuters."The demand is strong and the market should be able to absorb the price hike," the official, who declined to be identified, said. He said the retail trade prices for a 50kg bag will go up to about 183 rupees per bag, after the increase. 

Ramco sets up cement unit in Bhopal

The Indian Ramco group has set up a facility to manufacture fibre cement sheets at Kharagpur in West Bengal. The facility has the capacity to produce 80,000t of fibre cement sheets and 200,000t of cement. The group has interests in textiles, cement, building products and software. The Bajil Cement Factory, Yemen produced 360,000t of cement last year, an increase of 110,000t over 2003.   "It is first time the factory achieved such an increase since 1973," said factory general director Abdul-Karim Harab.
