Peru’s cement sales in the domestic market decreased 0.84 per cent year-on-year in January 2005, to 334,735t, Peru’s cement makers association Asocem said on February 15, 2005.  However, Peru’s cement exports stood at 31,300t in January 2005. Demand for cement in the southern states of Tamil Nadu and Andhra Pradesh has increased sharply in the last two months on the back of higher offtake of the construction sector. Kuwait Cement to export 20,000t

The price of cement has gone up by Rs5-10 per 50-kilogram bag across the various regions. The trend is likely to continue till monsoon. However, the price rise is not likely to affect the construction costs. ACC raised its cement prices by Rs5. Prices have gone up by Rs10 per bag to Rs150 in Tamil Nadu. In Kerala, cement prices have increased by Rs5-8 per bag to Rs165. Cement prices have touched Rs170-175 in Mumbai in the trade segment compared to Rs155 in Oct 2004.

Major cement companies have hiked the price of cement in South India by Rs 8-10 for a 50 kg bag. In Tamil Nadu, the price hike was about Rs eight while in Kerala, the prices have been increased by an average of Rs 10 per 50 kg bag, according to industry officials.
