Argos Panamá submits EIS for Balboa clinker plant

Argos Panamá SA has submitted an environmental impact study for its Balboa project to the country’s Environment Ministry. The new clinker plant will be built on a 18ha plot in Buena Vista, Colón province. The works will include limestone crushers, raw material grinding and clinker production equipment as well as conveyors, according to CentralAmericaData. The project represents an investment of US$168m.

Argos opens packaging plant in Dominica

Argos, a cement company of Grupo Argos, has opened a new packing plant on the island of Dominica in the Caribbean to allow a more reliable and timely supply of cement. Argos' consolidated revenues rise 14% in 1Q19

In the first three months of 2019, Argos reported revenues of US$693.8m, an increase of 14 per cent on 1Q18. Operating EBITDA reached US$99.39m, 3.7 per cent higher, while net profit totalled US$4.9m. Argos has announced revenues of COP1.9trn (US$670m) and a net profit of COP54.bn in the first three months of 2018. EBITDA increased 31 per cent YoY to COP371bn. However, cement sales fell by 4.1 per cent to 3.7Mt while concrete sales volumes fell 7.5 per cent to 2.4Mm 3 . Colombia: SIC confirms cartelisation sanctions

The Colombian Superintendent of Industry and Commerce (SIC) has ratified sanctions imposed in December on Argos, Holcim Colombia and Cemex Colombia, for price cartelisation between 2010-12. The three cement producers have been fined a combined COP201,616m (US$71.7m). Cementos Argos will have to pay a fine of COP73,771m, the same sum already paid by Cemex at the start of this year.
