Cemex announces temporary closures in Colombia and Panama

Cemex has announced that its Colombian subsidiary will temporarily suspend production from 25 March, following a decree relating to the coronavirus pandemic. Certain activities may resume on or before 13 April, if permitted. In addition, following measures implemented by the authorities in Panama, Cemex will also temporarily stop production and related activities in the country.

Argos reports 11% rise in revenues in 2019

Cementos Argos installs solar power unit in Honduras

Colombia’s Celsia CV (Grupo Argos) has installed a 10.6MW solar plant at Cementos Argos’ facility in Comayagua, Honduras. The unit consists of 32,160 solar panels and will be able to meet 20 per cent of the cement plant's electrical demand. As a result, Cementos Argos should be able to avoid some 10,000tpa of CO 2 emissions. The project is Celsia’s first photovoltaic plant in Honduras.

Colombian cement market expands 9% in January

Cement dispatches in Colombia increased by 8.5 per cent YoY to 995,400t in January 2020 from 917,100t in January 2019, according the country’s statistics office, DANE. Colombia’s Cementos Argos saw a 11.4 per cent YoY rise in consolidated revenue to COP9.3trn (US$2.71bn) in 2019. EBITDA increased 14.3 per cent YoY to COP1.75trn, while its operating income advanced 1.7 per cent to over COP838bn. Cementos Argos' Rioclaro plant has started its new 0.45Mta calcined clay production line involving an investement of US$78m investment for the manufacture and distribution of green cement.
