Cement consumption in Peru fell by 69.1 per cent YoY to 298,300t in May 2020, according to the country’s cement association, Asocem. Cement production fell by 70 per cent to 263,000t in May 2020 when compared with May 2019 but recovered considerably when compared with April 2020 when COVID-19 impacted operations at the country’s cement plants. Jan-May exports from Turkey up 37%

In the January-May 2020 cement and clinker exports from Turkey surged 37 per cent to 9.8Mt, according to the Turkish Cement Manufacturers’ Association (TÇMB). Export revenues advanced by 16.7 per cent YoY to US$447m. Cement exports were up  to 4.8Mt while clinker exports rose to 5Mt. Chilean cement demand down 23% in April

Cement consumption in Chile contracted by 22.9 per cent YoY to 268,319t in April 2020 from 348,151t in April 2019, according to the Chilean construction chamber, CChC. In the January-April 2020 period, demand for cement in the South American country declined 10.7 per cent YoY to 1,276,105t. In the 4M19, 1,428,225t of cement was sold on the domestic market.

Demand for cement in Indonesia declined 38.3 per cent in May 2020 to 3,207,114t, according to the Indonesia Cement Association (ASI). In May 2019 domestic consumption reached 5,195,380t. The largest decrease was noted in the country’s largest market, Java, where demand fell 46.5 per cent from 3,025,312t in May 2019 to 1,619,822t in May 2020. Puerto Rican cement sales increased 2.1 per cent YoY to 52,824t – the first increase since October and the highest level in seven months, according to the country’s Statistics Institute. In May 2019 sales stood at 51,546t while for the full year, they fell 5.6 per cent YoY to 575,100t. The Brazilian cement market expanded by three per cent YoY to 4.761Mt in May 2020, according to the country’s cement association, SNIC. Between January-May, dispatches slipped 0.3 per cent YoY to 21,683Mt. Cement consumption in Argentina decreased by 32.8 per cent in May 2020 to reach 648,562t, according to new data published by AFCP, the country’s cement association. Morocco’s cement market contracted 50.6 per cent in May with 523,848t of cement delivered to domestic customers, according to APC, the country’s cement association. In May 2019 deliveries by APC members (Asment Temara, Ciments de l’Atlas, Ciments du Maroc and LafargeHolcim Maroc) reached 1,060,372. Cement production in China fell 14.4 per cent YoY to 520.949Mt in the first four months of 2020.
