DTI increases anti-dumping duties on Vietnamese imports

The Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) has slapped provisional anti-dumping duties as high as 32 per cent on specific Portland cement brands from Vietnam to the Philippines, as these were found to be causing "serious injury" to local cement manufacturers. Sales of cement in Vietnam have increased five per cent in October to 5,239,069t, according to the Vietnam National Cement Association (VNCA). VICEM sales edged up two per cent YoY to 1,739,204t in October 2021 while its affiliates saw sales slip by one per cent to 1,149,865t. Cement and clinker exports from Vietnam decreased 1.6 per cent to 5,232,812t in September 2021 from 5,320,173t in September 2020. Clinker exports were down 11 per cent to 3,838,040t when compared with September 2020 while cement exports noted a 54 per cent drop to 1,384,772t, said the Vietnam National Cement Association (VNCA). Cement sales in Vietnam fell by a quarter YoY but edged up by five per cent to 3,684,047t in September 2021, according to data published by the Vietnam National Cement Association (VNCA). Cement sales in Vietnam fell 33 per cent YoY and 31 per cent MoM to 3,503,485t in August 2021, according to the Vietnamese cement association, VNCA. Vietnamese cement producers sold 8.09Mt of cement in August 2021, representing an eight per cent drop YoY as the COVID-19 pandemic suspended construction projects, according to the latest data from the Vietnamese Ministry of Construction. The Cement Manufacturers Association of the Philippines, (CeMAP) Inc said Vietnam's cement exports to the Philippines rose 17 per cent YoY to 2.51Mt in the first four months of 2021, making the Philippines the second-largest destination for Vietnam exporters. Total cement and clinker exports from Vietnam declined two per cent YoY in July 2021, according to the Vietnam National Cement Association (VNCA). Cement sales in Vietnam in July 2021 declined eight per cent YoY to 4,964,884t and by 19 per cent from 6,095,139t in June 2021, according to the Vietnam National Cement Association (VNCA).
