MPA reports sluggish 1Q19 sales of building materials in the UK

Sales volumes of mineral products across markets including aggregates, asphalt, ready-mixed concrete (RMC) and mortar declined in the UK in 1Q19, reported the Mineral Products Association (MPA). Seasonally-adjusted sales volumes for aggregates had the sharpest decline, down 4.2 per cent compared to the previous quarter, followed by RMC (-4 per cent), mortar (-2.8 per cent) and asphalt (-1.9 per cent). India sees rise in volumes for FY18-19

India's cement industry saw a 13.6 per cent YoY increase in volume to 275.7Mt in the first 10-months of FY18-19, driven largely by rural and affordable housing, according to a report by ICRA. In the 1H18 Steppe Cement Ltd sold 738,228t of cement for KZT10,539m (US$30.7m), compared with 650,333t of cement for KZT8553m in 1H17. Cement production in Vietnam reached 80Mt in 2017, up six per cent on the year before, according to local press reports. This figure was recorded by the Department of Construction Material under the Ministry of Construction. Pakistan's cement industry dispatches to domestic markets during May 2017 stood at 3.399Mt compared to 3.065Mt during same month last year. PT Semen Indonesia’s domestic cement sales dropped six per cent YoY to 2.55Mt in October from 2.71Mt. However, the company saw its export sales rise from 28,302t in October 2015 to 62,829t one year later. For the first 10 months of 2016, domestic sales edged up from 20.93Mt in 10M15 to 21.19Mt. Cement exports rose 15.2 per cent YoY from 419,767t to 483,745t.
