Dangote Zambia sees surge in cement sales

Dangote Cement Zambia Ltd  has reported a 40.9 per cent rise in sales to 768,000t of cement in the first nine months of 2018 supported by an increase in demand for housing and infrastructure. “We remain positive about the future as a business because of the increased cement demand from construction sector. We have claimed over 40 percent of the market simply because it is a preferred brand,” said Albert Corcos, Dangote’s CEO for east and southern Africa.

Dangote Cement announced a 13.5 per cent rise in group revenues to NGN685.29bn (US$1.88bn) for 9M18 as sales volumes advanced 7.6 per cent to nearly 17.8Mt. Group EBITDA rose 14.6 per cent YoY to NGN337.3bn while EBITDA margins advanced from 48.8 per cent in 9M17 to 49.2 per cent in 9M18. ZCCM-Investment Holdings has announced that it has signed a shareholders' agreement with China Machinery Construction Group Ltd, also known as SinoConst, for the development of a cement plant. The joint venture project, called Central African Cement Ltd (CAC), will see ZCCM-IH holding 35 per cent of the shares in CAC, while SinoConst will hold the remaining 65 per cent. Weye Construction Materials Ltd (WCM) plans to establish cement and quarry in Chilanga district, Zambia, at a cost of US$45m.
