Pakistan: Exports fall 24% in first nine months of 2015/16

Pakistan’s cement exports fell during 9MFY2016 on a YoY basis dropping by 24.4 per cent in volume terms and 28.9 per cent in US dollar values. Figures released by the Pakistan Bureau of Statistics (PBS) show that the country exported 4.6Mt of cement, earning revenue of US$248m during July-Mar 2016. Saudi Arabia lifts ban on cement exports as construction sector slows

A senior official in Saudi Arabia has said that the kingdom's ban on cement exports has been lifted. According to reports from Reuters, the ban - imposed in 2008 and renewed in 2012 - has been overturned because of a slowdown in the construction sector, which has led to an oversupply of cement. Votorantim’s Spanish subsidiary Cementos Cosmos has announced that the Toral de los Vados cement works is set to increase shipments by some six per cent in 2014 to 0.67Mt. Of this, exports will account for around 185,000t with 53,000t going to Haiti, 44,000t to Ghana and 35,000t to Brazil. EUR2.5m is being invested during December to improve efficiency.

Pakistan’s cement producers recorded a fall in cement exports to 741,782t at US$43.68m when compared with the September figure of 745,237t at US$54.96, declines of 0.46% and 20.53%, respectively. Pakistan's cement manufacturers and exporters exported 545,125t of cement and earned US$46.197m in the first month of current FY12-13, ie July 2012, compared to 612,500t at US$52.064m in June 2012.
