Puerto Rican cement sales see first drop in 4 months

Cement sales in Puerto Rico were down 0.6 per cent YoY to 1.5m bags of 94lb, or 63,957t in March 2023, according to the country’s Statistics Institute. It is the first drop in four months. In 2022 sales fell 6.8 per cent YoY, the first decrease since 2019. Production increased 21.1 per cent YoY to 926,400 bags or 39,500t. In 2022 output increased 11.6 per cent YoY to 8.3m bags or 353,893t – the first increase in four years.

Cement sales in Brazil decline 2% in March

Brazil’s cement market contracted by two per cent to 5.398Mt in March 2023 from 5.507Mt in March 2022, according to the country’s cement association, SNIC. Total shipments of Portland and blended cement (including imports) in the USA and Puerto Rico in January 2023 remained stable at 6.6Mt in January 2023, according to the US Geological Survey (USGS). Of the total blended cement volume, 2.1Mt or 95 per cent was Portland limestone cement (Type IL). Deliveries of cement in Switzerland, including Liechtenstein, were down 10 per cent YoY to 855,144t in the first quarter of 2023 from 950,556t, according to data published by cemsuisse, the Swiss cement association. Chile’s cement dispatches down 10% in January-February 2023

Cement dispatches in Chile fell by 9.5 per cent to 288,761t in February 2023 from 309,297t in February 2022, according to the country’s construction chamber, CChC. In the first two months of 2023, deliveries declined by 10.2 per cent YoY to 598,058t from 666,175t in the year-ago period.

Morocco sees small increase in March deliveries

Cement deliveries in Morocco by APC members edged up by 0.6 per cent YoY to 1,195,305t in March 2023 from 1,188,217, according to the country’s cement association, APC. Deliveries include dispatches by Asment Temera, Ciments de l’Atlas, Ciments du Maroc and LafargeHolcim Maroc. In the first quarter of 2023 deliveries declined by 5.3 per cent to 3.248Mt from 3.428Mt in the 1Q22.

Argentine cement consumption up 6% in March

Argentina’s cement market expanded by 6.4 per cent in March 2023 as 1,114,722t of cement were supplied, compared to 1,047,227t in March 2022, according to the country’s cement association, AFCP. Compared with February 2023, the advance was 24.4 per cent. Domestic production of 1,114,003t – up 6.4 per cent YoY from 1,047,227t – was supplemented by 719t of imports to meet the market requirement in March 2023. Cement consumption in Colombia fell by 4.4 per cent YoY to 1.058Mt in February 2023 from 1.107Mt, according to the country’s statistics office, DANE. Of this total, bagged cement sales showed a 7.1 per cent fall, but bulk sales were up by 1.3 per cent YoY. Cement consumption in Spain has fallen 7.1 per cent YoY to 1,175,290t in February, reports Oficemen.
