Peru’s cement market expanded by 4.7 per cent YoY in December 2021 to 1.275Mt when compared with the previous year’s December month, when consumption reached 1.218Mt, according to the country’s cement association Asocem. Argentina’s cement marked expanded five per cent to 1,025,371t in December 2021 when compared with 976,945t in December 2020, according to the country’s cement association, AFCP. Cement dispatches in Peru increased three per cent YoY and 21 per cent when compared with November 2019 to 1.208Mt, according to Asocem, the country’s cement association. Asocem’s member cement producers manufactured 1.157Mt of cement, up two per cent YoY and up 25 per cent when compared with November 2019. Sri Lanka’s Tokyo Cement has commissioned operations at its expanded Colombo terminal, following a LKR2.5bn (US$12.35m) investment. The capacity upgrade will fully come online when all three new cement storage silos, each with a capacity of 6000t, become operational, according to Daily News. Sri Lanka’s Tokyo Cement Co has begun distributing a shipment of bagged cement to fill a gap created in the market when importers stopped bag cement imports, according to the Daily FT. As a result, bagged cement will now reach end consumers in all parts of the island at the lowest maximum retail price of INR1275/bag (US$6.3), which is expected to lessen the impact of the cement shortage in the country.
