Peru’s cement consumption up 4% in June

The Peruvian cement market expanded by 4.1 per cent YoY to 0.914Mt in June, according to Asocem, the country’s cement association. However, MoM demand fell by 4.8 per cent. Cement dispatches in Peru increased four per cent YoY to 0.906Mt in June 2019.  Of this total, Asocem members supplied 0.807Mt while a further 0.099Mt was delivered by non-members. Southern Cross Cement plans new terminal in Brisbane

Australia’s Southern Cross Cement, a joint venture between Brickworks, Neilsen Group and Neumann Group, has announced an AUD60m (US$42.19m) investment for a new cement terminal at the Port of Brisbane. Cement consumption in Spain increased 6.6 per cent YoY to 1,333,698t, according to Oficemen, the country's cement association. Nepal's government has extended domestic cement grades to three grades by the Nepal Bureau of Standards and Metrology (NBSM). Grades 43 and 53 have been added to the 33-grade cement, overturning the previous law that prohibited domestic manufacturers from labelling their cement products higher than grade 33. Kazakhstan’s Steppe Cement has sold 780,315t of cement in the first half of 2019, an increase of six per cent YoY from 738,228t in the year-ago period. The revenue from the sale of cement has surged 34 per cent to KZT14bn (US$36.6m) from KZT10.5bn. Blended and Portland cement shipments in the USA and Puerto Rico advanced 5.9 per cent to 8.7Mt in April 2019, according to the US Geological Survey (USGS). The largest US markets were Texas, California, Florida, Ohio and Georgia, which accounted for a combined share of 42 per cent of such shipments. The Argentine cement market contracted by 11.4 per cent YoY to 860,631Mt in June, according to the country’s cement association, AFCP. The domestic demand was entirely met by Argentina’s cement producers, who produced 863,924t of cement during the month. The Egyptian flag cargo vessel "Wadi Feran" laden with 50,141t of imported clinker, which was arrested at the outer anchorage of Chittagong in Bangladesh on 26 May, as per orders of the local High Court in a litigation, was finally released on Friday. The vessel had arrived on 8 May and later successfully offloaded cargo imported by local cement manufacturers.

Spanish cement consumption expands 7% YoY in April

The Cement Demand Index, presented by Oficemen, the Spanish cement producers’ association, has registered an increase of 7.1 per cent in April when compared with April 2018. Cement importers have rejected claims by local manufacturers that the import surge on cement is causing "serious injury" to the domestic industry.
