CIMAF to start up Rep Congo works in January

January 2016 will see the start of operations at CIMAF’s Hinda works in southern Republic of Congo, according to the country's Industrial Development and Private Sector Promotion Minister, Isidore Mvouba. He reported the construction work at the new plant is now finished and the 0.5Mta facility is now ready for its official inauguration by Congo's President, Denis Sassou Nguesso.

China’s ICBC and Anouar sign US$171m financing agreement

Morocco’s investment group Anouar Invest has signed a financing agreement with the Industrial and Commercial Bank of China (ICBC) in the amount of US$171m for the construction of a cement works in Settat, Morocco. The project’s MAD2bn (US$203m) engineering, equipment and construction contract was awarded to Sinoma-CDI, which expects the new plant to be up and running by the end of 2018. Anouar Invest is also building a cement unit in Laâyoune.

Despite a number of government infrastructure projects finally getting underway, Semen Indonesia does not expect its 2015 sales to exceed the 26.6Mt recorded last year. US Cement’s new Brady plant moves closer to Brady City Council approval

US Cement is another step closer to building its new cement works in McCulloch County, Brady, Texas. The Brady City Council has authorised two proposed sales tax rebate incentives for a proposed cement plant that would be built in McCulloch County. The city sales tax rebate economic development incentive for the proposed plant would not exceed US$297,000 over nine years, or up to US$33,000 per year. Morocco: Anouar Invest starts construction on second cement works

Moroccan holding company Anouar Invest announced the start of construction of a new cement works at Laâyoune. Located in Foum El Oued, the new Cimsud plant represents an investment of MAD300m (US$29.98m) and will have a capacity of 0.5Mta. The unit is expected to come online in July 2017. Anouar Invest has also launched work on a 2.2Mta cement plant in Settat, via its subsidiary Atlantic Ciment. The MAD3bn facility is scheduled to enter production at the end of 2018.

Cementos Molins to enter Colombian market

Cementos Molins has signed an agreement to enter the Colombian cement market with local home and construction specialist Corona. The Spanish cement producer plans to build a EUR335m cement works in Antioquia. The plant will have a capacity of 1.35Mta and is scheduled to come online in mid-2018. The production facility will provide 220 direct and 250 indirect jobs during operation and an average of 800 jobs during the construction phase, according to local press reports.

Following a recent visit to Zimbabwe by Aliko Dangote, head of the Dangote Group, the company has announced plans to open a 1.5Mta grinding plant in the country. The plans have reportedly been approved by the Zimbabwean government with construction on the US$400m plant rumoured to begin in 1Q16. Dangote’s new plant in the Republic of Congo is expected to enter production in December 2016. The new 1.5Mta plant in Bouenza, Yamba district represents an investment of XOF139.725bn. UltraTech Cement is reportedly in talks with BK Birla-owned Century Textiles and Industries Ltd in a bid to align their cement distribution networks. Despite talks of a possible merger, both companies have made no comment on this.
