President of the Islamabad Chamber of Commerce and Industry (ICCI) Abdul Rauf has asked the government to allow duty free import of cement as the cement factory owners have increased the rates. In a press release issued on Thursday Mr Rauf criticized that that Monopoly Control Authority was silent on the present increase in cement rates and is not taking action on the unjustified raise. He said that if Government fails to control the cement prices, then duty free import of cement from neighboring countries should be allowed to provide cement on cheaper rates in the market and to save construction industry from crises.
