Trial of "cement gang" demanded
19 July 2004

A statement signed by 785 Palestinian figures has called for trying the "cement gang" that supplied the Zionist entity with Egyptian cement shipments that were used in the separation fence construction, according to the UAE daily ’Al-Bayan’. The signatories, researchers, academicians, politicians and representatives of the private sector, criticized the Palestinian legislative council’s performance in the economic sector. The statement expressed surprise over the Palestinian Authority government’s silence vis-à-vis such a scandalous deal. "We demand full investigation into the scandal and the punishment of all those involved in order to restore respect to the judiciary and to reform the internal Palestinian situation," it elaborated. Prominent PA figures and officials were involved in the deal that facilitated the sale of Egyptian cement to the Zionist market, which in turn used it in building the apartheid fence in the West Bank.
