Indonesia: Consumption rises 3.1% in year to June 2016

Cement consumption in Indonesia reached 29.48Mt for the first six months of 2016, according to Indonesia Investments, but sales in Java – the largest market – recorded a decline in June.

Overall, cement consumption for 1H2016 was up 3.1 per cent YoY. In June, Indonesia consumed 5.1Mt of cement, up by 1.8 per cent YoY. For the whole six-month period, only the Kalimantan region recorded a decline in consumption (of 16 per cent), but growth in Java was slow at just 1.3 per cent.

Export figures for 1H2016 were 0.21Mt of cement (down 19.3 per cent YoY) and 0.42Mt clinker (up 380 per cent). Both cement and clinker exports grew YoY in June, by 4.8 and 5.8 per cent respectively.

Semen Indonesia – the largest domestic producer – announced that its sales for 1H2016 were 12.2Mt – an increase of 1.6 per cent – but exports were down 20.1 per cent at 0.19Mt.
