Mexico's Grupo Cementos de Chihuahua (GCC) has recorded an 8.3 per cent YoY rise in consolidated net sales to US$301.7m for the third quarter of 2019, on the back of improved cement volumes and prices in Mexico and the USA. The Indonesian Cement Association has reported that domestic cement sales volumes in the 1H19 dropped 2.2 per cent YoY to 29.4Mt due to weaker demand from Java (-2.8 per cent YoY) and Sumatra (-6.3 per cent YoY). West China Cement Ltd has announced a 22.7 per cent increase in profit to CNY793.5m (US$112.3m) for the 1H19, compared with CNY646.7m in the year-ago period. Revenue climbed 27.2 per cent YoY to CNY3.31bn from CNY2.6bn, while EBITDA advanced 5.9 per cent to CNY1.38bn. Cement sales in Saudi Arabia increased 20 per cent YoY to 2.55Mt in June 2019, compared to 2.13Mt in the same month last year, according to data compiled by Yamama Cement Co. Only four cement producers out of 17 in total reported lower sales for the month. Egypt's El Nahda Cement has decided to partially suspend the main line at its 5500tpd Qena plant for nearly six months. The actions come as a result of a decrease in sales and an increase in clinker stocks, representing stagnant assets if not exploited, according to local media sources. Total cement sales in Egypt declined 7.7 per cent QoQ to 10.9Mt during the first quarter of 2019, while production decreased 8.1 per cent QoQ to 11.2Mt, according to the Central Bank of Egypt. The average price of cement slipped 0.8 per cent to EGP1190/t (US$71.2/t) in the 1Q19.

Cement sales in Brazil increased by 0.9 per cent in the first four months of this year to 17Mt, according to preliminary figures from industry association SNIC. During the period, the real estate segment was the main driver of cement sales, as infrastructure projects continue to advance only slowly due to low public investments. Eagle Cement Corp reported a net profit of PHP1.59bn (US$30.6m) in 1Q19. This was a rise of 49 per cent YoY driven by a double-digit growth in sales volumes and higher cement selling prices. In the first four months of 2019, Vietnamese cement sales have been estimated to rise eight per cent YoY to 35.45Mt, according to the Vietnam Building Materials Association.
