Dangote Cameroon sells 1Mt of cement in the 9M20

Dangote Cameroon has announced that it sold around 1Mt of cement from its 1.5Mta grinding plant in the first nine months of 2020, up 18 per cent YoY from the 9M19. The company has estimated that it had a 39 per cent market share during the period. The rise in demand has been attributed to increased investments in construction projects. “The market is primarily driven by individual construction projects and government housing estates,” said the company.

PPC sees rise in sales volumes in the 3Q20

South Africa’s PPC has announced that its cement sales volumes increased 20-25 per cent YoY in the third quarter of 2020. India’s Ramco Cements has reported a 40 per cent YoY increase in net profit to INR2.36bn (US$31.69m) for the second quarter of the FY20-21. Uruguay sees exports rise in the 2Q20

Cement sales in Uruguay reached 166,074t in the second quarter of 2020, a 3.9 per cent drop YoY, according to data from the Chamber of Industries. Of the total, 97 per cent were domestic sales and three per cent were exports, mostly to Paraguay. Domestic sales were down 4.1 per cent YoY, but exports climbed 3.9 per cent.

Puerto Rican cement sales rise in July

Puerto Rican cement sales increased 23.8 per cent YoY in July 2020, rising to 1.42m (42.5kg) bags from 1.15m bags in the corresponding period of 2019, according to Sin Comillas. Cement sales reportedly began to recover in May 2020 and surged 42 per cent YoY in June 2020. Cement production also advanced 31.3 per cent YoY to 1.32m bags in July 2020.

Argentina’s Loma Negra has announced a 30.1 per cent YoY decline in net revenue to ARS7453m (US$104m) in the second quarter of 2020. Bangladesh's raw material imports decline 13%

The value of raw material imports for Bangladesh’s cement industry fell almost 13 per cent YoY to BDT64.81bn (US$764.1m) in the FY19-20, on the back of a stagnation in construction activities due to the COVID-19 pandemic. In the Reserve Bank of Fiji’s economic review for June 2020, it has found domestic cement production to have fallen 28.7 per cent YoY in the 5M20. The results have been largely attributed to weak demand. Cumulative domestic cement sales also declined 18.8 per cent YoY in the year up to May 2020.

HeidelbergCement has announced a 4.3 per cent YoY increase in group revenue to EUR18.851bn in its preliminary results for 2019. On a like-for-like (LfL) basis, the rise moderated to 2.1 per cent YoY. Mexico's Grupo Cementos de Chihuahua (GCC) has recorded an 8.3 per cent YoY rise in consolidated net sales to US$301.7m for the third quarter of 2019, on the back of improved cement volumes and prices in Mexico and the USA.
