Cementos Argos will appeal a Colombian court ruling ordering it and 11 other entities to compensate residents of Membrillal, Cartagena, for alleged environmental and health damages.
The first-instance ruling by the Eighth Administrative Court of the Cartagena Circuit awards each plaintiff compensation equivalent to eight minimum wages for moral damages and six minimum wages for health damages, payable collectively by the entities concerned.
Cementos Argos rejected the ruling and said it will appeal to the Administrative Court of Bolívar, maintaining that its operations complied with applicable environmental regulations. The compensation will not become enforceable while the appeal is being considered.
