GICA exports 15,000t of clinker to Côte d’Ivoire

GICA has carried out a further shipment of clinker to Côte d’Ivoire, according to Samir Setiti, president and CEO of GICA subsidiary Sodismac. A consignment of 15,000t of clinker, produced in GICA’s Beni Safi (Aïn Témouchent) works, has left the port of Ghaza. Since May 2018 GICA has carried out around 15 export shipments from various Algerian ports. More than 0.5Mt of clinker have been shipped to Europe while at present west Africa is a key export market for the company.

GICA ships 37,000t of clinker to Côte d’Ivoire

GICA-owned Hadjar Soud de Skidka (SCHS) plant in Algeria has exported 37,000t of clinker from Annaba port, according to its CEO Youcef Merabet. "This cargo represents the first export operation to the African market made by the SCHS,” according to Mr Merabet. LafargeHolcim Algérie loads its first white cement shipment onboard for export LafargeHolcim Algérie has carried out its first exports of white cement from Oran, Algeria, to South Africa. A consignment of 10,000t of “Super White” cement, produced in the company’s Oggaz plant, was shipped to Cape Town. The shipment is part of the company’s export programme, launched in 2018. In the run-up to 2021, LafargeHolcim expects to export 10Mt of grey cement clinker to west Africa.

Algeria exports first shipment to Niger

Algeria’s first exports to Niger were carried out on 9 February by El-Hamel Sidi Moussa’s cement plant in Timegtène, 270km east of Adrar. The cement works shipped 2000t. GICA to commission new Sigus plant in March 2019

Construction of the new Sigus integrated cement plant in Oum El Bouaghi province, Algeria, is 87 per cent complete, according to Sofiane Bensaci, Finance Director of the company. With a production capacity of 2.2Mta, the Sigus plant will employ 150 direct jobs and 2000 indirect jobs, and commence production in March 2019. Total investment in the plant, which is part of the state-owned Groupe Industriel des Ciments d’Algerie (GICA), is DZD51bn (USD429m).

Algeria steps up exports

GICA, LafargeHolcim and Biskria are expected to export 0.5Mta of cement and clinker from Algeria by the end of 2018 – mainly via the port of Djendjen, according to Abdesselem Bouab, general manager of the port. Since May, GICA has completed three export deliveries for a total of 110,000t of cement. The company’s total contract totals 200,000t and represents a value of over US$4m.
