Uruguay: Cimsa to work with Ancap on Cementos Charrúa project

Company Industrializadora de Minerales SA (CIMSA) wants to form an association with Ancap of Uruguay to receive clinker for its subsidiary Cementos Charrúa, to produce cement at the grinding unit being built in Montevideo. The product is mainly earmarked for export to Brazil. Ancap operates a kiln line in Treinta y Tres, via its subsidiary Cementos de Plata, and will supply clinker to the new Montevideo grinding unit, while Cementos Charrúa completes its kiln line at Treinta y Tres....

Fitch: Latin America 2017 outlook stable

Brazil: Arabian Cement back out of plant project

Arabian Cement announced yesterday that it will be postponing further steps to establish a cement grinding facility in Brazil. The adverse conditions in the Brazilian economy are anticipated to impact negatively on the investment with forecast returns below expectations. The company reported it would be entering a joint venture with Cementos Relampago in 2014. The joint venture was to build a 0.23Mta grinding unit in northwest Brazil.

Camargo Correa in talks to sell stake in Argentinian cement assets

Reuters reports that an anonymous source has disclosed that Brazilian engineering firm Camargo Correa has opened talks with a view to selling a 40 per cent stake in its Argentinian cement firm, Loma Negra Cia Industrial. Brazilian steel and cement maker Companhia Siderurgica Nacional's (CSN) 3Q16 results improved in comparison with the year-ago quarter, primarily due to higher sales volume in the mining segment. The company's net loss contracted 80 per cent YoY to BRL106.6m (US$32.9m). CSN generated net revenue of BRL4469.2m (US$1379.4m) from all its operations, increasing 13.6 per cent YoY. Cimpor's first-half turnover dropped by 31.1 per cent to EUR897.3m, while EBITDA declined by 39.1 per cent to EUR170.1m.
